The Catedral de Córdoba was formerly the Great Mosque of Córdoba or the Mezquita, who was converted by the Umayyad Moors from the Visigothic Christian church. After the Spanish Reconquista, it once again became a Roman Catholic church, with a Gothic cathedral later inserted into the centre of the large Moorish building. Today the entire building is used to house the Cathedral of the diocese of Córdoba in Spain.
