It was during the 1970s that the first love hotels we know today began to appear in Japan but the history of love hotels can be traced back to the early Edo Period with the teahouses ant their discreet entry. Today, there are approximately 25,000 love hotels in Japan. Similar establishments also exist in other Asian countries, South Korea, Thailand, Singapore, Taiwan and Hong Kong, in Central and South America.
