Since a few years, in the streets of Brussels, organised under the auspices of the Brussels city authorities with the help of the Belgian Comic Strip Centre, huge cartoon murals can be admired in the town center. Belgian cartoon artists painted original murals on the walls of some buildings, figuring famous characters of the belgian bandes dessinées: Tintin, The Smurfs (Les Schtroumpfs), Spirou, Lucky Luke, Gaston Lagaffe, Blake and Mortimer, Lucky Luke, Asterix. A nice way to stroll around the streets of Brussels, the de facto capital city of the European Union (EU).
