The Temple of Dendur was built around 15 BC in Nubia and dedicated to the goddess Isis. It was removed from its original site in 1963 in order to save it from being submerged by the construction of the Aswan High Dam. In recognition of the American assistance in saving various other monuments, the temple was offered to the USA in 1965 and has been exhibited in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York since 1978.
